Markus Eder

Markus Eder is an Italian professional skier from South Tyrol who has made a name for himself in the freestyle and freeride disciplines. From a very young age, he has been hurtling down the slopes, first on downhill skis, before being seduced by the freedom of freestyle and its acrobatic tricks. His talent came to the fore in 2010 when he won the Nine Knights, propelling his career to the professional level. But Markus is a free spirit, hungry for new experiences. So he turned to freeriding, attracted by the wide open spaces and technical challenges of the mountains. In 2011, he confirmed his potential by taking second place in the Red Bull Linecatcher. Building on this success, he joined the Freeride World Tour (FWT) in 2018. The following year, he became Freeride World Champion. Today, Markus Eder continues to explore the mountains and share his passion through ambitious video projects like ‘The Ultimate Run’, where he fuses freestyle and freeride in a breathtaking run. He recently co-directed the film ‘Circle of Madness’ with snowboarder Victor de Le Rue. The film retraces their Alaskan adventure, a return to the roots of freeride where friendship and passion guided them up the steep slopes of Haines. Beyond the sporting feat, ‘Circle of Madness’ bears witness to a deep friendship between these two athletes who grew up together, sharing the same dreams of freedom and sliding.

Questions for Markus Eder

What motivates you every day to surpass yourself?

The joy of being able to do what I love has always been pushing me forward. Skiing is what fuels me, being in the mountains is what calms me. That’s what gives me the energy to do everything else in life, also for the things that are not so fun.

What is your best sporting memory?

I guess it’s the second place I scored back in 2011 at the Red Bull Linecatcher. I was a complete rookie in the backcountry, receiving my first pair of powder skis just a few weeks before and ended up on the podium in between two of my biggest heroes. That competition opened a door to a new world to me which I started pursuing from that day on!

What message would you give to young people who want to follow in your footsteps?

Go out, be absolutely passionate about what you do but ultimately go and have a good time with your friends! If you’re having fun you’re doing it right. Find your goal, dream it, but also forget about it too. You don’t need to think about your ultimate goal all the time, your life will automatically bring you in that direction if you really want it and you’ll score many achievements on that path.

If you had to keep just 4 of the brand's products, which would you choose?

That would be the Startimer Quartz Worldtimer and Chronograph, the Alpiner Extreme Automatic as well as the Alpiner Extreme Skeleton. It’s hard to say but the Skeleton is probably my favourite out of these four.
