THE MAIN SPITZBERGEN GLACIER SUCCESSFULLY CROSSED

Borge Ousland and Vincent Colliard successfully cross the Main Spitzbergen/Svalbard Glacier, the first glacier crossing of the Alpina & Ice Legacy project.

BORGE OUSLAND AND VINCENT COLLIARD SUCCESSFULLY CROSS THE MAIN SPITZBERGEN/SVALBARD GLACIER, THE FIRST GLACIER CROSSING OF THE ALPINA & ICE LEGACY PROJECT.
On the 11th of August 2014 Borge Ousland and Vicent Colliard have successfully accomplished the crossing of the Main Spitzbergen/Svalbard Glacier, one of the highest glaciers in the Artic Ocean and the first of the 20 glaciers they will cross over the next 10 years as part of the Alpina Ice Legacy projects, to raise awareness for the preservation of the world glaciers and the ancestral ice.

They have been walking and skiing a distance of 180km from the northeastern part of the glacier (79°49' N 17°50' E) to the exit at Tempelfjorden (78°25' N 17°20'). Because of the favorable weather conditions the crossing has taken only 11 day's instead of the 20 previewed.
